Biodiversity & Native Plants

Native plants are the heartbeat of our ecosystem, providing food and homes for local wildlife while keeping our soil strong. Protecting these local plants ensures that nature stays balanced and resilient for years to come.

Have you ever looked closely at the trees, bushes, and flowers growing right outside your door? These are often native plants—plants that have grown naturally in our environment for hundreds or even thousands of years!

Because native plants have lived here for so long, they are expert survivors. They know exactly how to grow in local soil, how to save water during dry seasons, and how to stay healthy through rainy weather. But even more importantly, native plants are best friends with local animals, birds, and insects. For example, local butterflies look for specific native flowers to drink sweet nectar, and birds build their nests safely in native trees.

When native plants disappear, local animals lose their homes and food. We can help protect our environment by learning about native trees in our neighborhood, planting local species in our gardens, and keeping wild areas safe!
