Plant a tree that belongs here
A native tree feeds local birds and insects in a way an imported one never can. Choose one that already grows wild near you.
How to do it
- 01
Walk around your area and notice which trees grow without anyone planting them. Those are your native trees.
- 02
Ask at a local nursery or forest office for a seedling of that species.
- 03
Dig a hole twice as wide as the pot, but no deeper.
- 04
Water it every week for the first two dry seasons — this is the part most people forget.
- 05
Come back and measure it each year. Write the numbers down.
